VA Partners with Nonprofits to Honor Vets for “Memorial May”

Four non-profits announced plans to remember veterans, including marches, flower placement, and more.

The Department for Veterans Affairs’ (VA) National Cemetery Administration announced efforts for celebrations and outreach in honor of Memorial Day. The VA will be collaborating with four non-profits, and the administration projected there would be more than 70,000 volunteers at over 100 VA national cemeteries throughout May.

VA Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Sam Brown said, “I welcome everyone across the country to join us at our national cemeteries in honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives protecting our freedom and our way of life. As we mark the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, the sacrifices of these heroes remind us that liberty is never free and must be cherished and protected by every generation.”

Carry The Load volunteers will march at 75 locations across the country. The Travis Manion Foundation is encouraging fallen veterans’ families to submit relatives as honorees, so that a volunteer can visit the gravesites and place a handmade token of remembrance through The Honor Project. Victory for Veterans will be placing flowers on graves, estimating a total of 27,000 placements. Veterans Legacy Memorial encourages families to submit photos, stories, and documents digitally, utilizing their expansive platform to share memories and historical information.
